The start of summer today saw heavy snow in many alpine ski resorts after 30 degrees centigrade temperatures on Monday! After the lack of snow over the winter such a snowfall on the day Summer officially commences felt slightly ironic!
Seeing the snow certainly gets the juices running and we already have itchy feet as we await the new season. Snow permitting, typically the skiing starts middle of November in the high ski resorts with Christmas the main week that the season really does fire up.
Already Christmas skiing holidays are proving popular and although they are lagging behind New Year and Half Term, in luxury ski resorts, being high altitude bookings are healthy.

Luxury Ski Chalets Sites
May is always a quiet month in the Alpine ski calendar but not a quiet one if you are working for one of the ski operators who use the down time to enhance websites and load next years ski prices. The last three years have clear seen an influx of new sites and one has to ask the question, couldn't someone come up with a universal database where people manage their price and availability and each site draws from it?
Getting back on track, May also saw one of the 'new companies' although its a promising start for this new comer with a clean site and relatively simple to navigate. Well done to all the Luxury Ski Chalets (.co) staff for a good start.
One other site we have come across that might interest readers is Luxury Ski in ski out chalets operator site of Chamonix Exclusive, not new by any means but has to be one of the better small operator sites we have come across.

Scott Crusair Ski Review
Our friends this week at Chalet Ski popped out with us for a day at Flegere with Chalet Ski's very own 'Mincer' (those arms really do trail) out on a kindly 'loaned' (don't forget to give them back) pair of Scott Crusair's to test. We were lucky on this day that we had bright sunshine (too much if anything) so conditions were a little heavier than normal for January.
The weather contrasted however with the following day judging by the video they made whilst testing both the Crusair's and the Pro Go Hero 960 head mounted cam. If you would like to read more on their ski review of the Scott Crusair just click the Chalet Ski link at the top of the page.

Scott Mission 2011 Review
This week our friends at Chalet Ski have been out and about testing the very latest skis and gadgets. On the ski front we've been eating the Scott Mission and the Scott Crusair, and on the gadgets front the Go Pro HD Hero 960 head mounted camcorder. Interestingly it was a mixed bag of reviews with the Scott Missions fairer pretty poorly, the Scott Crusair's ok, and the Go Pro HD Hero 960 fairing very well in the tests for image quality and value for money.
You can read about the Scott Mission 2011 performance at their blog by clicking on the link above. The Scott Crusair report will feature shortly this week and next week the Go Pro HD Hero 960 so why not subscribe to their blog feeds to get them as soon as they appear.

New Ski Chalet Site Gets An Avalanche of Interest
In the virtual world, we see and hear about many ski sites springing up from around the world and in reality you know that at best, 1% will be successful. So this week yo may be surprised that we have picked out a ski chalet company Chalet Ski who have launched at the London Ski Show. What makes them different, is firstly their presence at the show, and more importantly their domain name: www.chaletski.co.uk. It a little research and its plain to see that this site has significant search potential, and according to their Chief Executive, they have already had at least one 'mystery shopper / competitor' asking detailed questions about their strategy and objectives.
Positioned at 23 on Google UK searches, their chief executive was upbeat on their initial reaction 'the interest and reception at the ski show was phenomenal. And when you have established competitors showing an interest, you really know you are on the right lines'.
Its early days, but having seen the site, they probably are on the right lines, but lets just wait and see.

Ski New Year
Now is the time that people start to return from their summer holidays and look forward to the ski season and the New Year celebrations. For many this will mean skiing and celebrating New Years Eve at the same time! Demand for skiing NewYear is however always high and nearly always exceeds supply so don't be surprised if you leave it beyond September, that you may not get anything close to what you had hope, if anything at all. If you take our advise, start looking now, and be prepared to pay the premium as many operators raise prices by nearly 50% to capitalise on such high demand.
